Ertegun Staff and Scholar Profiles

BPhil in Philosophy

I did my undergraduate degree in Philosophy at the University of Cambridge, graduating in 2014. My focus during that time was mainly on early modern philosophers, especially Descartes, Hume and Kant.

Most of my work at Oxford concerns Kant and Wittgenstein. In particular, I am interested in these two figures as they relate to various questions in the philosophy of mind and moral philosophy. One such question asks what role the concept of a human being plays, and should play, in ethical thought. Another question concerns what it is to speak and think in accordance with rules of language and thought. I am also interested in how we know about other people’s mental lives, and how this differs from the way we know about ourselves.

To have been given the support and space to pursue these questions in the form of an Ertegun Scholarship is an extraordinary gift. I am deeply grateful.
